In the last few posts we’ve been digging deep – exploring our subconscious beliefs about money and getting clear on our underlying motives for being small business owners. Now it’s time to lighten up and… laugh! Don’t get me wrong, we can all still learn a thing or two from this post 😉 but we’re going to have fun doing it.
Turn That Frown Upside Down
Many times when you tell yourself something like “money doesn’t grow on trees” it’s a justification based on feelings of lack and fear. Little negative money mantras like this are tools you have been using to keep yourself small and… broke.
Check in with yourself: Do you feel like you can’t afford to spend a day at the spa getting pampered? Have a nice dinner out with friends? Invest in your business by paying a premium for high quality coaching? If your answer is Yes, I invite you to reconsider, because the reality is that you can’t afford not to do these things!
And you do know why.
Taking excellent care of yourself enables you to give more to others. Taking excellent care of your business ensures that you can reach and serve the abundance of clients who are out there waiting for you.
“Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees!”
Okay, so maybe money doesn’t technically grow on trees but there is plenty of money circulating throughout the world for each of us to live in abundance. So much that it may as well be growing on trees! That old saying is tantamount to a money fib.
Much like trees, money gives us the ability to breathe. Trees produce oxygen and money produces precious time for us to catch our breath. Wealthy people understand that money is time. The more money you have, the more free time you will be able to share with your loved ones.
There is enough money out there for you and me and your neighbor down the street to all be wealthy but we have to take action to go get it. The law of attraction is great and it does work, but people often overlook the part of the law of attraction that says you must take action towards your intended outcome in order for it to manifest.
If Money Grew On Trees Would You Be Rich?
The answer seems obvious. Of course you would be rich! So would everybody, right? Wrong. Only the people who went out to pick the money off the tree would be rich.
This is where many holistic business owners get caught up. In time, we pass the tests, gain the certifications, and hang the joyfully-earned ‘shingle’ in our community. And then comes, for many of us, the reality check — getting clients and customers. Screech! Whoa! Wait a minute! Nobody told me I had to actually sell myself and my services in order to make the business, um … work.
There are plenty of clients looking for products and services like yours who truly want to spend their money supporting businesses that align with their values. Businesses like yours, my friend. But you won’t get their business if you don’t go out there and ask them for it. So think of it like this: money does grow on trees and you can cultivate a small – or large – orchard of clients willing and able to pay for your services.
Laugh It Up! A Lighthearted Approach To Money
Not quite what you’re used to, eh? Many holistic healers and other small business owners experience financial strain. Years of struggle can cause some of us to react to the topic of money with stress. So making light about money can change your associations with the topic from pain to pleasure.
Have you heard of laughter yoga? It’s the practice of laughing to move positive energy through your body and raise your vibration into alignment with joy. People get together and laugh in lots of different ways for 2 to 5 minutes at a time. Sure, at first you may feel a little ridiculous laughing like a dolphin, but by the end of those 2 minutes you feel ready to leap around just like one of those playful creatures!
So let’s try out some laughter yoga of our own, shall we? Start by saying “money doesn’t grow on trees” then laugh out loud like a child climbing a tree. Laugh like this for a full minute. If you’re at work or somewhere else public where you don’t feel comfortable laughing out loud right now then do the same exercise but laugh silently. Really allow yourself to let go and get into this, then …
