Is Success With Your Holistic Business Eluding You?
You’re doing your best and working hard every day. You’ve spent thousands of dollars and years of your life honing your craft. Yet somehow you can’t manage to keep the clients rolling in to your business. You’ve had to invest so much of your time for so little money that it’s starting to affect your personal life, too. If this sounds like you then you’re probably suffering from a toxic money blueprint.
First, let me tell you that you’re not alone. Many healers, yogis, and other holistic business owners struggle beneath the unnecessary weight of financial strain while the tools needed for success are right in front of them. Ironically, those who feel called to serve others often won’t take the actions that will support themselves.
What Is Your Unexamined Money Mantra?
There are a multitude “default settings” we automatically switch into when money is concerned. I call these “unexamined money mantras.”
A lot of people never take the time to listen to what they are repeating to themselves about finances. And in this case, what you don’t know (or aren’t aware of) really CAN hurt you.
So it’s time to roll up your sleeves and dig in to unearth the single most common justification that’s killing your business…
Default Mode – The Big, Bad Unexamined Money Mantra
“I can’t afford to invest any more money in my business.”
I can’t tell you how many times I hear this from a potential client who genuinely needs business support. Keep in mind that these are healers, helpers and solo business owners who have invested a lot of money over the years to master their skills in order to be of service. Now, these are not people who are living on the street or otherwise financially destitute.
These are people who have spent thousands of hours and dollars mastering a skill set (or MANY skill sets!) that will truly serve their clients. People who choose to screech to a halt when it comes time to invest in the business of their business. The results are easy to predict …
Countless hours of precious time and energy wasted, trying to reinvent the wheel of running a BUSINESS and doing it with no training. All while not spending nearly enough time doing things that will actually make them money (i.e. marketing, sales, and fulfillment).
I am painfully familiar with the results of this unexamined money mantra because I told it to myself for years. It left me feeling exhausted, unhappy, financiall crippled and stressed to the max. I don’t want this to happen to you!
Take A Look From The Logical Side
How much sense does it make to have invested in skill mastery and not be able to support yourself with it?
The not-so-pleasing truth is this: If you’re not making enough money to support yourself, pay your bills, and live the life you are wanting through sharing your expertise then you’ve got a hobby, not a business.
Now, if you a business then you must invest in learning, well … business skills.
Sales and marketing are two key skill sets that every successful business owner needs to master. Investing in these types of trainings is really important for holistic business owners in particular because these are often skills that we feel an aversion to. We don’t want to become the sleazy salesman or woman. But the truth is that customers won’t just come knocking down your door randomly. You have to learn how to market and sell to them.
Take Positive Action
The next time you realize you’re turning down an opportunity for business growth because you “don’t have the money,” ask yourself if that is really true. Then ask yourself where you can drum up the extra money to pay for this opportunity. If you’ve already got sales and marketing skills – great! Sell more and voila, there’s your money. If not, you can figure out another way.
For heart-centered helpers who want to build a service-based business it’s important to remember this …
Before we can fulfill our purpose and help others, we must heal any negative energies within our relationship to money and service.
Have you got “money mantras” you tell yourself that have been keeping you locked into a pattern of struggle? What are they? Write these down so you can work through them with me during the next post and share in the comments below.
